Environmental & Management Sustainability Policy

In our consideration of Grenada’s welfare and the globe on a whole, Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort is committed to achieve environmental and social sustainability. Mount Cinnamon is a boutique hotel of 36 luxury suites & villas, located on the renowned Grand Anse Beach of Grenada, with one pool, 2 restaurants and bars and an exclusive Beach Club which offers nonmotorized water sports. Our spa has a philosophy that is a simple, holistic approach to well-being, and makes use of natural products such as cinnamon and nutmeg which is indigenous to the island. Our establishment complies with all relevant legislation and regulations, and strive to achieve international best practice. Our appointed Environmental Sustainability Consultant, Jonnel Edwards, has the responsibility for ensuring ongoing eco-friendly performance, identification of environmental risks, recording and monitoring of impacts and implementing environmental and social sustainability measures. Special consideration will be given to employing and empowering local employees, and wherever possible, environmentally sustainable products and services will be sourced locally. Our commitment to the environment includes limiting our carbon footprint through reduction in water, energy, and waste sent to landfill. Our commitment to the community involves coastal clean-ups, social projects, monetary donations, and student involvement in environmental fieldwork. Mount Cinnamon has implemented a Sustainability Management Plan and will strive to meet the requirements of the Green Globe Company Standard.

Purchasing Policy

The management of Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort understands that the hotel’s purchasing decisions can make a significant contribution towards improving the property’s environmental performance and protecting the surrounding environment. In the Caribbean we are sometimes restricted to what brand or product our suppliers import and sell and as a result we sometimes have very little choice in the type of products we use in the hotel. However, where possible, we choose products that are “environmentally friendly” in terms of content, reduced packaging, and ease of recycling/reuse and or disposal. In purchasing responsibly, our hotel becomes more cost-effective and contributes at the national level by stimulating the local economy and enhancing the local environment. To maintain environmentally friendly purchasing practices within the hotel, we:

  • Review all products and services purchased and assess their environmental impact • Review services provided by the hotel and assess their environmental impact
  • Determine the availability of environmentally friendly alternatives • Promote supply of better alternatives with suppliers
  • Purchase locally grown or produced goods wherever possible.

Staff Awareness

We understand that in order to maintain a successful SMP, we must have buy-in from the staff. Our staff training takes place every month via green-team meetings to discuss our initiatives, and ideas for the future. Jonnel Edwards also meets with our staff periodically, which fosters an open forum for discussion of ideas and current environmental affairs.

Community Commitment

We value our community and the relationships we share. Our commitment includes monetary and in-kind donations to children in foster care, homes for the elderly, coastal clean-ups, and school fieldwork activities. We aim to target those in need, and especially those who are not under support by any other company.
